Edenville and Sanford Dams Exhibit

Best Little Town by a Dam Site!

“The Wolverine Power Company had its genesis in the mind of one man, Frank I. Wixom, but its history shows the involvement of many who came to believe that the waters of the Tittabawassee River could indeed be harnessed to bring power and change to the surrounding areas.

“When Frank Wixom returned to the Edenville area in 1905 after success in his oil-field ventures, one of his first steps was to organize a stock company, the Tittabawassee Power Company, with $1 million capitalization. He next convinced the Midland County Board of Supervisors that they should grant the company a franchise to construct two dams across the Tittabawassee, one at Sanford and one at Edenville.” (Quoted from the 1970 Sanford Area Centennial Souvenir Picture Album.)
